1pr HO Slot Car Aurora Thunderjet T-Jet style MAGNETS BTO, Better Than Original!

    Item Description
You are one (1) PAIR of newly made B.T.O. Better than original Magnets for an Aurora Thunderjet 500 T-Jet style car. They are much better materials and performance than the originals. Comparable to the Dash T-Dash magnets. Newly made to exacting standards!
These new compression bonded neo (also known as poly) magnets have been made in multiple strengths to offer a wide range of options for use in Thunderjet and AFX chassis.

These magnets are made from BCN-27 grade material.  Overall within this grade there are eight levels of strength, ranging from BCN-27 (BCN-27-1) which is the strongest to BCN-27-8 (weakest).

All the magnets were produced from the same mold so there are no dimensional differences regardless of grade.  Since not all chassis are the same, the fit can sometimes be a little tight but will always fit.  In many cases, the two magnet pockets on any individual chassis can very such that the same magnet is tight in the front pocket and a perfect fit in the rear pocket, or vise-versa.

The common misconception is all poly magnets are stronger than ceramic magnets and that is simply not true.  Just as ceramic magnets can be made in different strengths, poly magnets can be weaker or stronger depending on the grade of material used.  Since batches of poly magnets are made from a mixed powder, the magnets have much less variance in strength than their ceramic counterparts.  Getting a matched pair of poly magnets is much easier than finding a pair of matched ceramic magnets because their strength is more consistent.

Five grades of BCN-27 magnets are now available for T-Jets and AFX: BCN-27-2 (strongest), BCN-27-3, BCN-27-4, BCN-27-5 and BCN-27-6.  The right magnet for any given chassis and application will need to be determined by testing, setup, personal preference and any applicable racing organization rules. These options allow a choice of the magnet strength that works best in any given situation.  A stronger magnet does not necessarily mean better performance.  Matching magnet strength to the armature is key.

To compare the strength of poly and ceramic magnets, it is necessary to compare the MGOe numbers for each grade of magnet from available charts.  The MGOe number represents the maximum energy product.  There are other characteristics of all magnets, such as shock resistance, heat resistance, etc., but to compare magnetic strength it is the MGOe number which is important.

While Aurora magnets can vary widely, it's believed the common ceramic strength magnet used in Dash, Johnny Lightning and Auto World chassis is C8B.  It's MGOe number is in the range of 3.6-4.0.  To compare that to BCN-27 magnets, the comparable grade magnet would be either BCN-27-5 (3.0-4.0) or BCN-27-4 (4.0-5.0).  The strongest ceramic magnet is rated C12 and has a range of 4.8-5.2.  A BCN-10 poly magnet (commonly referred to as poly 10) has an MGOe number of 10.0-11.0.

The MGOe numbers for BCN-27 grade magnets are as follows:

    BCN-27:   7.0-8.0
    BCN-27-2: 6.0-7.0
    BCN-27-3: 5.0-6.0
    BCN-27-4: 4.0-5.0
    BCN-27-5: 3.0-4.0
    BCN-27-6: 2.0-3.0
    BCN-27-7: 1.0-2.0
    BCN-27-8: 0.5-1.0

These numbers were borne out by measuring the magnetic pull on a piece of steel using a regular weight scale and a random sample of magnets.  While the following numbers do not correlate to any given scale, they show the relative strength of various Thunderjet style magnets.

The numbers below indicate the North/South average as well as the number of pairs tested. The pull was measured in grams.
